Altai is a wonderful and very picturesque place which was described by so many admiring words in literature and songs. European tourists who come to visit Altai being attracted by the beauty of this place call it “the Siberian Switzerland” because of striking likeness between the Altai Mountains and the Alps in Switzerland. Every year more and more tourists from Europe chose Altai as a destination for their holidays. The word “Altai” is translated from Mongolian as “Golden”. The region is considered to be a paradise for travelers. Its famous biosphere reserves and parks are included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Plenty of natural attractions and magnificent landscapes attract travelers from all over the world.

Altai is a land of contrasts. Here you can find plenty of unique and absolutely different natural and climatic complexes. Thanks to altitudinal zonation during a journey you can observe mountain slopes covered with boreal forests, legendary edelweiss meadows, mountain summits covered with snow and ice, cold rivers with rifts and waterfalls in the headstream and calm lower course, vast dry stony steppes and wonderful landscapes of intermontane. Talking about the contrasts it’s important to mention that the highest mountain peak of Siberia and the deepest cave of Russia (the Ecologicheskaya) as well as the third deepest lake (Teletskoelake) of Russia are also located in the Altai Mountains.

We hope that intensive development of tourist infrastructure won’t hurt a fragile and fascinating nature of Altai and its cultural and historical heritage.
